Audio Magnetics XHE Ultra I - 90 - 1979
A series released for the Canadian market (maybe US as well?).
XHE released type I, II and IV tapes and were accepted as good quality cassette tapes. The type IV (4) was an exact Denon Metal cassette (Denon DXM 1981). They also had a fairly unique packaging appeal, making them a favourite for nostalgic and collectible reasons. These XHE tapes are rarely offered.
XHE stands for Extra High Energy suggesting a better than typical type I tape by Audio Magnetics. They high-lite their exclusive "Magnalinc TM" oxide results in extremely flat response and exceptional "headroom" characteristics critical for live recording applications.
Collector's corner: These XHE cassettes are exceptionally difficult to find. The type I, even more so. The 60 Minutes cassettes are nearly impossible to find sealed, or open. The last 2 pictures are of a slightly different version not currently being offered here.
Note 1: 90 Minutes: The picture with the red price tags is the tape you will be getting. The shells of this cassette are in all likelihood the transparent ones shown here, however this cannot be guaranteed. Only 1 available.
About Audio Magnetics:
Audio Magnetics was a manufacturer of magnetic tape products based out of Switzerland and very little else is known about this company. Some of their 1978+ released tapes were manufactured and distributed in Portugal. Distributed in the UK, Ireland and other European states. This geometrical design with small rectangles on their black shells, along with the hub design and yellow leader tape, suggest these were manufactured by SKC of South Korea.
