Memorex’s 1974 MRX2 was their top‑of‑the‑line cassette, proudly stated right on the wrapper. Made in the USA, it features the famous foam pressure pads and those unmistakable hard‑case designs that outclass standard Norelco boxes. Our stock has been beautifully preserved: intact wrappers, stable pads, and tape that still records smoothly without shedding, remarkable for a 50‑year‑old cassette. It’s incredible to think these have been kept sealed and untouched for half a century.
Recommendation: One C120 was opened and everything appeared in perfect condition. Before recording, a quick fast‑forward and full rewind helped loosen the tape pack, making it easier on the transport. In general, tape should feel relaxed before use, and a FF/REW should always part of the ritual of preparing a cassette for usage anyway.

About Memorex:

Memorex began in 1961 in Silicon Valley as a magnetic‑media company specializing in computer tape and quickly expanded into consumer audio cassettes during the 1970s. Their “Is it live or is it Memorex?” campaign made the brand a household name, and throughout the 1980s and early ’90s they offered a wide range of ferric and chrome tapes, many produced through OEM partners such as SKC, Saehan, and later CMC. Memorex also branched into small electronics, blank CDs, and storage accessories as the cassette era faded. Today, the brand still exists under new ownership, focusing mainly on consumer storage and accessories, but its cassette legacy remains one of the most recognizable in the format’s history.
