That's easily and quickly proved they did not enter the cassette tape market to lag behind anybody. Their quality and performance is superb at every level. Expect nothing less.
June 15, 2022: How about that name — That's? Was it clever marketing or just odd? According to Frank Lassak of Germany, there’s a simple reason: “They chose it so people would say, for example, ‘That’s Peter Gabriel’ or ‘That’s Madonna.’ Simple as that!”
Frank learned this in early‑80s London as the tape was being introduced across the UK. At a Virgin Record Store event on Oxford Street, he picked up this naming trivia along with other details about what made the tapes special — and walked out with 20 of them. Thanks Frank. Way to go! Cheers

Taiyo Yuden Co., Ltd. (太陽誘電株式会社 Taiyō Yūden Kabushiki-gaisha, translated as Sun Dielectric Co., Ltd.) is a Japanese materials and electronics company, situated in Kyobashi, Chuo, Tokyo.
Taiyo Yuden began in 1950 as a Japanese materials‑engineering firm, later entering magnetic tape production in the late 1970s and formally launching its cassette line under the That’s brand in 1983. Their tapes, notably the EM (Type II), MG/MR (Metal), and FX (high‑end Type I), stood out for distinctive design, excellent build quality, and strong engineering pedigree. In Japan and Europe, they were sold as That’s, while early U.S. releases used the TRIAD name before global unification in the 1990s.
Cassette production ran through the 1980s and early 1990s, after which Taiyo Yuden shifted focus toward optical media and electronic components. By 2015, the company fully exited all recording‑media businesses (CD‑R, DVD‑R), selling patents and manufacturing equipment to CMC Magnetics. Today, the company operates globally as a major supplier of MLCCs, inductors, and circuit modules for automotive, industrial, telecom, and consumer electronics markets.
