Hitachi TRK-8270HC Boombox, Cassette, AM/FM, Phono/AUX. 1980

This Hitachi TRK-8270HC is a well designed, high-quality boombox, and packed with excellent features. It was manufactured in 1980, apparently added to the famous Hitachi "Perdisco" line-up, and they were top notch quality.
At the time, branded "Hitachi", this was a product of the widely known and famous Hitachi Maxell Ltd. company, made in JAPAN... at that says it all.

This Hitachi TRK-8270HC features:
- FM/AM/SW
- Cassette Player
- DRPS (Digital Random Program Selector)... song finder, and it's working well.
- Plays/Records Type I, II & IV cassette tapes
- No Dolby Noise Reduction system
- Frequency Response: 70-15,000 Hz with Type IV
- Wow & Flutter: 0.1% WRMS
- Line In (AUX) or Phono inputs, working well
- Weighs Approximately 6.0 Kg

Note 1: It's in great condition, but it has the inevitable yet slight blemishes of a 45 year old boombox. All functions are working properly. I could not get the AM/SW to work, but I did get two AM stations towards the left side of the dial. I'm certain it is operational. The SW always needs extra antenna signal to capture anything. Repaired by Klaasson Vintage Audio of Orillia, Ontario, Sept. 21, 2023, and just a few days ago (September 5, 2025) for a brand new and correct belt.
Blemishes and other notes:
(a) The antenna is original and is functioning well, however there was no tip (broken off), which made it difficult to extend it. I added a phillips #5 (0.6mm) screw to it and it sits on there perfectly, making the antenna fully operational.
(b) Condenser microphones and Mic Mixing features were not tested.
(c) Kawasaki KS-21, 3.0 Amp 125 volt power cord is clean and included. Made in Japan.
(d) Battery compartment is like new. Not tested with batteries.
(e) All selector switches and their features are fully operational which is a real treat. All cosmetic blemishes are shown as per all the provided pictures.

Buying a Boombox for the first time?

Most of the Boomboxes available here at Cassette Comeback are from 1980-1986, which is arguably Boomboxes' best period. Boomboxes of this short lived period were never again matched in quality, features and design. However, they were never meant to have a lifespan of more than 10 to 15 years, regardless of the brand, and the fact they were made in Japan. Yet, 40 to 45+ years later, we still expect them to fully work as originally intended. They can be expensive to maintain, service. Play them frequently to get the most out of them. An inactive boombox will seize faster.

Warranty: Any kind of warranty on any vintage electronic equipment is rarely offered these days. A 30-Day warranty is offered on this Hitachi boombox TRK-8270HC. This limited warranty starts from the day the unit arrives in your home. Any and all mishaps, or accidental damage that may occur during shipping may void any warranty that CassetteComeback.com may offer.

This Hitachi TRK-8270HC:  This Boombox has 30-Day warranty from the day you get it at home. This limited 30-Day warranty is good if bought before December 15, 2025. Example: You buy it December 14, you get it at home January 5. Your warranty is good until Feb. 5.
Shipping it back to the Technician's workplace (or Cassette Comeback) for warranty coverage is your responsibility (you pay for shipping costs), and return shipping costs after the warranty repair, will be covered by us, up to $35 USD. The difference is again, your responsibility.

Insurance: Carriers these days no longer truly offer any kind of shipping insurance. This new stance leaves us totally open for significant losses. Here are some basic options available:
(1) Cassette Comeback's automatic shipping choice is with Canada Post specifically for Boomboxes, Cassette Decks and other Hi-Fi components. By default, "Expedited Parcel" service by Canada Post, offers you $70 USD of included insurance coverage at no additional charge. Higher coverage is possible through a custom shipping option with Canada Post, but you will need to contact us.
(2) Cassette Comeback can offer shipping services with other carriers that offer higher insurance coverage. It is best that you contact us through an email to more quickly zero in on a solution that best suits you.

Shipping notes: Our Boomboxes can be shipped to most places in the world. If you do not like the shipping rate quoted to you by the site, please contact us by email, and we will try and offer you a few more choices with respect to the shipping costs, and insurance coverage. We recently shipped a very similar boombox to California. Shipping cost was about USD$67.00 with only USD$70 insurance coverage on it. Could not buy more insurance from the Canada Post carrier. Other much more expensive options do exist, but higher insurance coverage can be purchased. Sometimes you gotta take a risk.

Side Note: I do not own the rights to any music you hear on these videos.
