BASF Chromdioxid Extra II - 1982 - EU
*PLEASE NOTE, THESE ARE PURE CHROME TYPE 2 CASSETTES - IF YOU HAVE A DECK CALIBRATED TO FERRO COBALT TYPE 2 (LIKE TDK SA) YOU WILL NEED TO CALIBRATE TO THESE CASSETTES TO GET THE BEST RESULTS. These wrappers are flawless. Only 5 available!
Many cassettes say "Chrome POSITION", but don't use chrome tape at all.
Most of the other manufacturers didn't want to license it, so their Type II tapes are cobalt doped ferric, hence Chrome POSITION.
This tape however IS a chrome tape.
So what does that mean sonically? Well, they don't take a lot of signal, record these at no more than 0db. So that will mean that they're hissy?
Not at all, the benefit of a pure chrome tape is low hiss and brilliant reproduction, even at lower recording levels.
Many decks that you can't manually adjust the recording level and bias on don't like these tapes, as they've been set up to use the likes of the TDK SA.
But if you can, and you take the time to calibrate the deck to use these tapes, you'll find they're one of the best ever made. We love them.
This is from when they were at the top of their game. Only two released at a time. Only 5 available. May 6, 2022
