SONY Chrome - 1974 - US
I still remember when “Chrome” (the Type II setting) was seen as the pinnacle for capturing vinyl. Time almost paused when someone held a real chrome tape, it felt magical, just as or even more exciting than today’s "Yoots" unboxing the latest iPhone.
You always knew a special recording was coming when someone spent the extra money on chrome. This batch appears to have been beautifully stored, and while they should perform well, many will likely choose to collect them rather than record on a 1972 NOS tape — but that’s up to each enthusiast.
True classics: well‑made, nostalgic Sony cassettes whose rarity is reflected in the price. When this listing here at cassettecomeback was entered, the "Note #1" Cassette did not show up on any online catalogue as an exact match. It has small details not found on any known reference.
Note 1: 90 Minutes: So rare... three 3 available. SOLD.
New stock: Feb. 07, 2026. New 1 available in beautiful condition. Wrapper has some tiny repairs, but looking really good.
Note 2: 90+2 Mins: 100% new tape, looks really good (see pics). Wrapper is long gone. I will be inserting it in a tight plastic bag, after ensuring that it is clean to avoid any other elements enter its realm. It comes with this unreal pamphlet, which is probably much rarer than the tape itself. A pamphlet describing all about chrome tapes and the advantages of using them over the ferrics of the time, early 70's. Only 1 available.

Sony produced the world's first portable music player, the Walkman in 1979. This line fostered a fundamental change in music listening habits by allowing people to carry music with them and listen to music through lightweight headphones. Walkman originally referred to portable audio cassette players. The company now uses the Walkman brand to market its portable audio and video players as well as a line of former Sony Ericsson mobile phones.
Sony utilized a related brand, Discman, to refer to its CD players. It dropped this name in the late 1990s.
