LG HP - KR - 1997

The 1992 LG SHP is... "A bonafide Super Ferric. It took levels that shouldn't have!" Tony Villa.

Click on the video link below to watch a review by Tony Villa on the surprisingly great performing 1992 "LG SHP" Goldstar cassette. Tony Villa rated this cassette as his top choice in this video, rating it even higher than yet another surprising bonafide super ferric, the "dB" that Memorex made for the US/Canadian markets. "Super High Performance" as quoted by LG, suggesting a high quality ferric! Now, this one (1997 LG SP) is described as an HP (High Performance) cassette, but there were none catalogued as SHP, which could very well mean that this 1997~2001 HP is the same formulation as the 1992 SHP... hence, a super ferric tape, just saying.

Note 1: 90 Minutes: 1992:  Lightly scuffed wrappers. Only 2 available.

About LG Electronics Inc (GoldStar):

LG GoldStar, later it would become LG, began in 1958 in Seoul and grew into one of South Korea’s most versatile electronics manufacturers. During the cassette era, GoldStar produced its own tapes in‑house, known for inventive shell designs and ferrics that often performed above expectations. Their production scale was modest, but they did handle a few small OEM runs for regional brands such as Hyundai Electronics, Orion‑Korea, and some generic Gulf‑market ferrics that share unmistakable GoldStar tooling. While LG eventually shifted toward appliances, displays, and mobile technologies, their cassette period remains a distinctive and collectible chapter in the brand’s early history.
