Audio Magnetics XHE 90 - Type I - 1978

A series released for the Canadian market (maybe US as well?).

XHE released type I, II and IV tapes and were accepted as good quality cassette tapes. The type IV (4) was an exact Denon Metal cassette (Denon DXM 1981). They also had a fairly unique packaging appeal, making them a favourite for nostalgic and collectible reasons. These XHE tapes are rarely offered.

XHE stands for Extra High Energy suggesting a better than typical type I tape by Audio Magnetics. They high-lite their exclusive "Magnalinc TM" oxide results in extremely flat response and exceptional "headroom" characteristics critical for live recording applications. The tape also features a "jam-proof" mechanism that employs unique "Paraflo TM" guides for faultless transport.

Note 1: 90 Minutes: Notice the label shows very well how old this tape is! The glue has lost some of its integrity although it still binds perfectly. The imperfection is on the look of the label itself, giving it this "granite-like" finish appearance. The shell is actually of excellent quality. SOLD.

About Audio Magnetics:

Audio Magnetics was an importer/exporter of magnetic tape products based out of Switzerland and very little else is known about this company. Some of their 1978+ released tapes were manufactured and distributed in Portugal. Distributed in the UK, Ireland and other European states. Evidence of the line of XHE cassettes clearly aimed at the Canadian market, suggest they were manufactured by SKC of South Korea.

If you have information about this company, please let us know so that we may share it with everyone else.

Audio Magnetics XHE 90 - Type I - 1978... Made in Portugal (?)

Additional Note: It's a Swiss company, but XHE used these semi-clear shells and their "Paraflo TM" tape guide anti-jam system, during the time they manufactured cassettes in Portugal. Not certain that they all were, but many are documented to have been manufactured in Portugal.
